Requesting All Electric Bicycle and Motorcyclists’ Near Miss Incident Reports

“The Global status report on road safety 2018, launched by World Health Organization in December 2018, highlights that the number of annual road traffic deaths has reached 1.35 million. Road traffic injuries are now the leading killer of people aged 5-29 years. The burden is disproportionately borne by pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.”

More than half of all road traffic deaths are among vulnerable road users: pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists.”

These are worldwide statistics but they highlight the danger faced by all vulnerable road users.  Our friends in the motorcycle community asked us add the ability for motorcyclists to submit their near miss incident reports to our free Incident Management System so we added a “Cycle Type” field to our Incident Reporting form which includes:

  • Pedals only
  • Class 1 electric bicycle
  • Class 2 electric bicycle
  • Class 3 electric bicycle
  • Scooter
  • Motorcycle

Our e-bike riding members were already submitting near miss incident reports but this new field will allow us to analyze and report on each specific type of cyclist.
